Hyped to Skate 1
As much as I have talked about drawing inspiration from my friends and their skating more than pros, today I am starting a series of blogs posts called “Hyped to Skate.” I’m going to post skate video parts that make me want to go skate, from classic videos.
Today I’ll start with Tommy Guerrero’s part in Powell-Peralta’s second video, Future Primitive.
There’s absolutely nothing super-human in this video, unless you count the very young Tommy’s style and the fact that he’s skating some steep hills in San Francisco. However, when this video came out his ollie over the little hedge was something very few people could accomplish, and it was eye-opening as to the possibilities of the ollie for navigating the street on a skateboard. This is a guy riding a skateboard in the early 1980s, having fun. The essence of the Small Arts.
