Priorities
This year, rather than having New Years resolutions, I’ve been thinking about some adjustments to how I think about my personal interests, and the time I devote to them. These are the things I enjoy, and are kind of seperate from the things I enjoy doing with my wife (though there is some overlap of course).
So here are the things, and my planned adjustments.
- Skateboarding: I want to skate two or three times per week, most likely two, for about 2 hours a session. This will be plenty to keep me somewhat fit and in-practice. I need to stop thinking that if I can't skate for 3 hours every day I might as well not skate. That's just dumb, but that's how my mind tends to work.
- Reading: I'd like to read for 15 minutes a day as a start. Like skateboarding, I tend to think that if I can't read for two or three hours I might as well not start. This is a stupid way of thinking, but there it is. This means always having a paperback in my backpack or my charged Kindle.
- Gaming: tabletop roleplaying games are a big deal to me. I'd like to actually play twice a month with my gaming group. My wife plays in our D&D group, and as our puppy gets older she'll be able to return to the game, which has kind of been on hiatus since we got him. I want to work on gaming stuff in the evenings.
Things like blogging and podcasting fit in there as well, but I find it easier to get to them.
