This is a page from Skateboard World Magazine, from 1978. The event was the 1978 Oceanside Pro Freestyle. Oh - I’d have given my left nut to have been there, though I was only 14 and had never heard that expression before.

Doug Saladino rode for G&S. Matt Barden rode for Howell Skateboards, the only freestyle-specific pro team ever. I used to just stare at these images trying to imagine the skating. Saladino, also known as Pineapple, won the event. One of the greatest all-around skaters ever.
