The Hill

Well, this is my work weekend. That means I’m off this afternoon and all day Friday. However, Friday is supposed to be rainy, so that means no skateboarding. Maybe I can get out a little today around 5pm. I’ll give it a try.

Since I have nothing new to post, I will take you back to my days of skating “my hill.”

A few minutes from my house we used to have this hill. The hill is still there, but it has been redeveloped into housing. They not only ripped up the street, but now of course there is traffic. But for many years I went to this place several time a week. The road wasn’t that steep, but with a tailwind you could hit about 30mph. It curved down around a couple of office buildings. It was a private road, technically, but they never said much to us about skating it. We didn’t cause any problems. The whole run as bit over a quarter of a mile.

The best part? After 5pm there ZERO traffic. You could skate for hours and never deal with a car.

If you have never gone fast on a skateboard let me assure you that the upper 20s is fast. It is faster than you can run. Frankly, when you pass about 15mph and have only more hill in front of you and no brakes, well, THAT is fast too.

As much as I love my current skating, I do miss this spot.
