Skateboarders and micro.blog

It’s Micro Monday ( @monday ), so I’m taking some time to recommend my friend Chris Battle’s new blog, and this post in particular.

Chris had this incredible image to share, and was spurred into blog-posting action by this post from another friend, Brian Neverwas. There are some common themes happening here. Our friend Jacob will be posting soon.

I was looking around the micro.blog help forum today, just checking out the various topics and conversation. One had to do with improving “discovery” here on micro.blog. Many of the tools common to other sites and social media services do not exist here, in an effort to keep out bad actors. In particular, the person asking the question was concerned with community building, and how the absense of these tools makes it a bit harder. He has a point.

Brian, Chris, Jacob, and I are trying to do just that – build a community – but we are going about it very intentionally. Rather than depending on discovery tools, we are starting a group of independent blogs and actively promoting them within our small community. We are all people who like to write. I have no illusions about this. A lot of people don’t like to read. That’s fine. Our blogs may not be for them. That’s fine. A lot of people will be content to sit on FB or wherever. That’s fine too. I have no idea where this project is going, but whoever participates will be invested.

This may take some time, but it will be worth it.
