Skating tonight

We are quickly approaching the time of the year when I will have essentially no daylight to skate in after work. While I love fall, the time change infuriates me every year. As it is right now, I’m sitting here at my spot at 7:33 PM And it’s already dark. There’s barely enough light to skate. I feel like I spend a significant portion of my life waiting to go skate. Waiting for those few hours a week when I can do this thing I love. I think most skaters are the same. In fact most people are probably the same about whatever they’re into. it’s just that skateboarding is incredibly weather dependent and sunlight dependent. I may have to break down this year and start going to a skate park just to roll around in the evening. It will be better than not skating at all.

Theoretically I devoted a few days to skateboarding last week, but at a large gathering you don’t necessarily get that much skating in. The truth is I wasn’t feeling really great during the trip. I overestimated my ability to drive, deal with travel issues, and actually feel good. I had a great time talking with friends I see about once a year, so that made the whole thing worth it. But I just didn’t get a lot of practice. Not a lot of skating. This past summer was just terribly hot, and with other things going on I just haven’t gotten enough skating in. It’s driving me a little bit crazy.

At any rate, while I didn’t get a lot of skating in tonight, some skating is better than no skating, and I do feel better. I’m just going to have to deal with the time change and bullshit weather issues realistically. Next summer I’m going to skate in the evenings whether it’s hot or not. I’ll just drink a lot of water. And I’ll be careful not to over exert myself, but I can’t go a whole summer bitching about the heat and not riding.

This is the first post I’m doing from the mobile app on my phone. I’m doing it by voice dictation. I shot and edited the video on my phone. This is pretty cool. I like it.

I skate here at the public library which is right next to City Hall. A couple of months ago there was a bad fire in City Hall and the building over there is off-limits. It doesn’t affect my skating at all, but I’m wondering if it will affect the impending erection of Santas Village. Every year about this time this particular practice spot becomes covered with little Christmas buildings that they put up usually in late October, and the damned things stay up until February. I’m really hoping it is not put up this year. That would be great. The war on Christmas must commence!
